The main resources "FOOD" and "WATER" are required for all tasks that involve actions from a living asset. If you send a human on a mission perform a PvP action with them, they will require "FOOD" and "WATER" in order to complete the task relative to the amount of time the mission or action lasts.
All other resources are related to crafting, building and upgrading!
All resources can only be obtained from scouted locations, but some, such as "FOOD" and "WATER" can also be obtained from structures that can be built.

In terms of the actual game-play, each map has 12 locations that must be successfully scouted, before a new map is made available. Each location require 10% more power from the players scouting team than the previous one, making it easy to calculate whether or not a location can be successfully scouted. Locations can be scouted more than once, but offer an increased reward the first time it is succesfully scouted! Players can increase their scouting power by adding more humans to the community, providing the team with gear or simply by getting more experienced with scouting. Each succesfull scouting run award the community with scouting experience, that over time increase the scouting power as well. Players can also chose to spend longer time scouting and preparing, and will get an increased scouting power by assigning more time for the scouting mission. Likewise, a player can chose to speed up the scouting missing at the cost of power, and complete it faster, if the scouting team has
sufficient power to do so.
